The Trumpeter Swan Society (TTSS)
www.trumpeterswansociety.org
This small but impressive conservation organization is working hard to conserve a Yellowstone signature species. Yellowstone is a core population for this majestic bird. We visit their stronghold of Red Rock Lakes on almost all of our Yellowstone journeys. Exciting gains have been made to restore swans to states and provinces all across the north - they now appear in all four major flyways. We encourage you to join them as a member and help them with their important work!

Birders'
Exchange (BEX)
This outstanding program, run by the American Birding Association puts optics, field guides and resource material in the hands of biologists throughout the New World. You can donate your used optics, digital cameras, laptop computers, field guides and resource books, and Naturalist Journeys will work with Birder’s Exchange to find a worthy recipient in the eligible countries we visit. We will deliver the materials to biologists in the field as we visit nations in Central and South America. You get a tax deduction and the satisfaction of knowing you are contributing to that person’s work which in turn contributes to conservation in that country. Be careful – with incentive like this you may want to upgrade those binoculars before your next journey!!!

Calculate your CARBON FOOTPRINT for air and land travel using this handy calculator! We encourage you to make a donation – it’s a small part of your tour expenses and goes a long way to help.
Based in Tucson, Arizona and founded in 1991, Sky Island Alliance works to protect unique Madrean Oak woodlands and other habitats in Arizona, New Mexico and northern Mexico. They work with scientists and local experts to provide information, and with a host of volunteers in resource inventory and habitat restoration.
National Parks Friends Groups
A great way to stay connected and to contribute directly to a park you’ve experienced on one of our journeys is through its non-profit FRIENDS group or, in some cases, the park’s FOUNDATION. Here are a few that match up to our recent trips – if you do not find the park of interest here we suggest you try to query that park, or request information through the National Parks and Conservation Association which maintains several regional offices that work on park-specific projects.
Big Bend (TX)
Zion National Park (UT)
Yellowstone National Park (MT,ID,WY)
Olympic National Park (WA)
Saguaro National Park (AZ)
Haleakala National Park (HI)

National Parks Conservation Association
We highlight this national group as it is committed to preserving the parks that we cherish and visit on so many of our journeys. They have grown in stature over the years and run a very effective program through a Washington DC office and a growing number of regional offices. A great recent example is their recent work in protecting Fort Davis, a park that we visit on our Big Bend journey from residential development that would have marred the view shed of this wonderful historic site. They have many success stories and with the national park’s Centennial coming in 2016 we can expect a lot of POSITIVE projects that will enhance protection of our parks.

Greater Yellowstone Coalition
This nationally acclaimed organization has been the major force behind protecting the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem since 1983.
Grand
Manan Whale and Seabird Research Station (GMWSRS)
Laurie Murison directs this outstanding small museum and research
facility, which promotes conservation of the Bay of Fundy,
winning award for community involvement. Their research, education
and conservation efforts are impressive. Check out their website
to learn about critically endangered Northern Right Whales,
marine mammal and all aspects of marine life in the Bay of
Fundy. Through them you can Adopt a Right Whale and support
their work by shopping for books, and myriad whale and marine
life gifts. They provide a great source of information for
activities on Grand Manan as well. Read about our day with
Northern Right Whales and biologist Laurie Murison in the
Bay of Fundy in the GRAND
MANAN DAILY JOURNAL 2007.
