An Amazon River cruise is simply the best way to explore this incredible region. More than 1,300 species of birds, 40,000 plant species, two species of river dolphins, and an abundance of primates are found in this lush, ever-changing realm known simply as “The Amazon.” Explore by riverboat or book a private lodge stay — there’s no better way to immerse yourself in this living labyrinth of forests and wildlife.

Naturalist Journeys offers an Amazon wildlife tour each year. If an Amazon tour, South American birding tour, or South American wildlife tour interests you, contact us today.

Guided Group Tours

Group travel is rewarding and fun! With more eyes you see more species. Travel Planners of Naturalist Journeys and Caligo Ventures have been creating memorable journeys for 40+ years. We offer you small-group birding and nature tours, limited to just 8-10 persons led by expert guides. Learn and explore with like-minded people, enjoy local food and culture, and immerse yourself in birding and nature.

Conservation Corner

We value conservation – it is at the heart of our work. All Naturalist Journeys’ tours support local conservation projects. Browse the links below to learn more about positive local work to save and conserve the wildlife and landscapes we visit.

Acaté Amazon Conservation
Through partnership with local communities around indigenous medicine, permaculture, and sustainable commerce, Acaté Amazon Conservation bridges cultures and works collaboratively to preserve the Amazon rainforest.

Northern Mealy Amazon
The Northern Mealy Amazon, a parrot found in northern Peru, are under increasing pressure from the illegal wild bird trade and habitat destruction. The World Parrot Trust’s “Protect the Amazons” initiative works to find solutions for these and a range of other Amazon parrot species.

CONAPAC
The ribereños of the Peruvian Amazon are an ethnically diverse people including European descendants, native, and mestizo individuals, whose lives revolve around the Amazon River. CONAPAC promotes rainforest conservation by working in local communities through adopt-a-school, sustainable development, and service projects, including the development of clean water treatment plants. We and International Expeditions, our partner on our Amazon cruises, support this project with a gift each voyage.
